Dear Parents,
Red Ribbon Week
What's new? We have a new system at Piute that allows you to see your child's grades and progress in all subject areas. You should have received a paper with this information on it. The paper displays you and your student's login information. You need to have internet access to access this new system. Our hopes are that you are able to see your student's progress, what he/she is missing in assignments and are able to communicate with your student's teacher. The staff is still learning how to implement this program so if you do not find what you are looking for or if information on this system seems incomplete...please bear with us.
Students this year will be required to read AR books or books that are approved by me as part of their reading grade. The 7th level will be required to read 25 pts per quarter, and the 8th, 8 plus group are required to read 30 points per quarter. Again, this will be part of their reading grade.Just a reminder, my reading groups are broken up into 7th level, 8th level and the +8 group. If the student wants to read a book that is not an AR book have the student bring the book to me and I will assign the book AR points. The student will need to do an assignment to make up for the AR test they will not be taking.
7th and 8th level Language Arts groups will receive instruction for English, Reading and Spelling. There is plenty of class time to get all spelling assignments complete each week. Please let me know if your student is coming home with "too much spelling homework"!
Students are able this year to choose an elective, Sign Language with Mrs. Bellusci (Monday -Thursday) or with me for Core Lit. (Monday -Thursday) We are enjoying the book Bud Not Buddy. They will receive a grade. If they are not taking Sign Language seriously they will be sent back to Core Lit and they will get caught up to where we are in the book.
Here are some helpful web sites for being computer safe. It is always wise to know at all times where your kids are surfing on the internet.
Thank you for your time. If you have any question please call to set up a time with me. You may also write notes on your child's assignment book. I will respond to your notes. I am usually at school at 7:30 a.m. and I will be at school until 3-3:30p.m. everyday.
