Mrs. Bellusci
Welcome

Sign language

We are having a great year in Sign Language!

Mrs. Wagner is teaching the beginning level and they are doing fantastic! They are concentrating on fingerspelling, vocabulary building, and sentences.  They did a great job signing a poem at the Volunteer Luncheon.

Mrs. Hesse is teaching a crash course in vocabulary.  Their goal is to make it all the way from A to Z by the end of the year. They are also learning poems and songs and are playing some fun games with their new signs.

Mrs. Bellusci is teaching the advanced class, and they are now conversationally proficient!  They enjoyed an after school silent party and had no problems whatsoever not speaking for the entire evening! They also did a great job signing, "My Wish" at the Volunteer Luncheon.

One of the resources we use in all three classes is an on-line dictionary called ASL Browser, http://commtechlab.msu.edu/sites/aslweb/browser.htm.  It shows video clips of a comrehensive vocabulary.  The signs are clear and easy to follow.  Best of all, the sign is repeated over and over until you get it!  Also, there are numerous books and video tapes on sign language available at all Kern County Library sites.  If anyone is interested in a comprehensive list of materials available for purchase on-line, go to http://gupress.gallaudet.edu/
